Elsa Schiaparelli at Melbourne Fashion Week

Posted by

Elsa Schiaparelli was one of fashions true innovators, with a short but impressive career between the 1920's and 1950's which boasted collaborations with Dali, arch rivalries with Chanel and commissions for Hollywood's rich and famous.
Amongst all of this she is (arguably) best known for her surreal and elegant headwear, with the "Shoe Hat" made in collaboration with Salvador Dali being one of her most famous legacies.

For Melbourne Fashion Week 2017 we're celebrating this surrealist fashion icon and inventor of "Shocking" Pink, with an exhibition and series of surreal events, including workshops, talks and parties!

Tickets to these events are strictly limited and we'd hate for you to miss out, so come join us for some surreal fun. Scroll down for details!

xx Team Headonist xx

Exhibition Opening - Friday 1st September 6pm - 9pm (Free)

Together with the team at Empress Marlene, The Eternal Headonist is presenting a special exhibition of vintage Schiaparelli headwear and costume jewellery alongside with some Elsa inspired millinery tributes from top Australian milliners.

The exhibition will run throughout Melbourne Fashion Week (1st - 8th Sept), but join us on Fri 1st September for the opening at our Melbourne store:

Shop 9, Georges Arcade
195 Little Collins St,
Melbourne 3000

Workshop: Make a Surrealist Headpiece - Sunday 3rd Sept 1pm - 4pm ($89 +BF)

Be inspired by the surreal creativity of Elsa Schiaparelli and make your own surrealist headpiece to wear to your next party or even the races.

In this fun little workshop Melbourne’s favourite surrealist milliner The Human Chameleon will teach you all the steps required to make your own small piece of other worldly fashion. Did we hear lobster headpieces?!

Talk: The Schiaparelli Story - Weds 6th Sept 7pm ($20 + BF)

Elsa Schiaparelli has one of the most interesting stories in fashion. A true innovator, adventurer and badass #girlboss long before such hashtags were required. Milliner, designer, friend to Dali, rival to Chanel, and the only lady brave enough to dress a 1930's Royal bride-to-be in a lobster! Vintage fashion expert and author Nicole Jenkins from Circa Vintage will present an interactive talk on this most colourful of characters.

An Intimate Surrealist Fashion Evening - Thurs 7th Sept 7pm ($40/$50 + BF)

AND THEN WE PARTY! Elsa's squad was a heady mix of artists, intellectuals, adventurers and aristocrats so you can imagine the fun and personalities an evening at Elsa’s would have embraced.
Expect the unexpected, our intimate fashion event will have the glamour of Schiaparelli with an added surrealist twist. An evening celebrating those who dare to be different, with some special surreal and intimate performances from some of Melbourne's favourite burlesque ingénues. Dress to impress in your most Schiaparelli inspired outfit!

The Many Hats of David Bowie - A Tribute to the Ultimate Headonist

It's hard to pinpoint the time David Bowie entered my life, he was just always there. An omnipresent, mythical, and fantastical being, infiltrating childhood as the beautiful, yet spooky and mulleted Goblin King, entrancing with his crystal ball, cackling laugh ....and THAT bulge. Eliciting teenage fascination through his dashing good looks, fashion prowess and intensely cool [...]
